ABSTRACT

U.S.O. Project develops through exploration of elementary particles arranged and organized in clouds of discrete and punctiform events, until they compose structures of extensive polymorphic and spatial complexity.

Starting from a definition in terms of "primitive", as an object which describes a pure mathematic condition, the explorative course "renders" the following steps in sensitive and organic shapes, until arranging more complex levels of definition and meso-structural interaction.

Sound spaces surface from coalescence and dispersive evaporation, thus describing phenomena and entities of different sizes and inner complexities.

The "Aural Streaming" of the Performance defines a bi-directional vector where space and time become elastic variables subjected to generative and structural contingencies of every single "Event", where every phenomenon re-arranges itself through a form of algorithmic interdependence "ab originem".

By exploring U.S.O, listeners will have the chance to submerge themselves in a real-time generative course, where the contingency of the experience will dynamically vary from infinitesimal to immense.

Travelling through the reference "Vector", they will observe both simple and complex phenomena, which consequently define wider portions of known and unknown perceptible universe.

Milan/Rome based Matteo Milani and Federico Placidi are sound artists whose work spans from digital music to electro acoustic improvisation.
U.S.O. Project was born from the desire to discover new paths and non-linear narrative strategies in both aural and visual domains.The project includes several collaborations with visual artists and performers.
Milani and Placidi are the co-founders of the label "Synesthesia Recordings", a repository of electroacoustic works.
U.S.O. is a continuing evolving organism.

Self-published by authors Federico Placidi and Matteo Milani, a.k.a. “Unidentified Sound Project”, this album opens with a section entitled “Quantum Dripping” (three tracks), which relays their non-compromising sound research that deals with stylized interferences. Nervous sound structures (which are then modulated in the subsequent “Rebirth” section), elementary sound particles, cacophonies and granular sound frizzles consistently abuse the electronic medium. The project - with no frills - shows a definitive coherence, a terse power, but gives no clue to those not interested in structured audio technicalities. The authors underline a separation with the listener, indicating their refusal to create a work that “must” communicate. The clusters of musical “concretions” here seem then to self-organize, following internal algorithmic protocols. It’s a procedure that the authors define as “transient drawing” and they combine it with the editing of extremely small sound-wave pieces. - Aurelio Cianciotta
