With this project, Gabriele Coen and Federico Placidi present a reflection on the more intimate and delicate work of Massimo Coen: his moments of study and improvisation in a domestic setting, moments suspended between possible Ricercari and imaginary Toccatas.
These interludes of absolute creative freedom, sometimes surviving impermanence thanks to the use of a microphone and an audio cassette, constitute a kind of executive memory, potential compositional materials shaped in the form of possible paths of listening and imaginary scenarios. They actualize the presence of the composer/performer in its most immaterial and transcendent form, linked to sound matter and the pure experience of listening.
All this becomes possible through the use of analysis and classification procedures of the original tape material (using segmentation and clustering procedures via Gaussian mixture models) and the construction of a model or memory derived from the symbolic temporal structure formed by the relationships between the various classes in the form of associated labels.
Thanks to the real-time use of pattern matching strategies and the use of neural networks in the form of multiple agents, the Bass Clarinet will be able to establish a musical and structural dialogue with the source material, dynamically recomposing it through the generation of sound scenarios, scenarios suspended between past and future, like new lands emerging to explore in the vast ocean of memory.
